2ND XI: Thrilling last over win for Sussex in Championship17-Aug-2012
Sussex’s Second Eleven won a nail-biting affair in the Second Eleven Championship yesterday as their match with Hampshire at Horsham went right down to the wire.
After the visitors had lead by 197 runs overnight going into the final day of the clash at Cricket Field Road, they were finally dismissed for 264 as Lewis Hatchett, Matthew Hobden and Will Beer all finished with two wickets apiece.
It set up a last-day run chase for Sussex as they required 230 from 58 overs remaining in the match. Despite losing a few overs for rain and the light proving somewhat of an issue, Sussex managed to get over the line in the last over of the day.
Beer led the way with his knock of 71, the mainstay of the innings, along with 55 from opener Matt Machan (pictured) proved vital in the run chase whilst Harry Finch (32) and Ollie Graham (28 not out) ensured Sussex were victors by five wickets.
The Second Eleven are back in action on Tuesday when they return to Horsham to face Middlesex in the Championship. Entrance is of course FREE
