ACADEMY: Development XI in narrow win over Brighton & Hove19-May-2014
Sussex’s Development XI were victorious over the weekend as they beat Brighton & Hove by nine runs at The Nevill.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, Sussex made 203 for 9 from 58 overs as wicketkeeper-batsman Leo Cammish (61) top-scored, sharing a partnership of 102 with Ben Shoare (59, pictured) for the third wicket. Chris Atherton, brother of former England captain Mike, was the pick of the bowlers for Brighton & Hove taking 5 for 33.
In reply, George Garton was in fine form with the ball for Sussex claiming a haul of 5 for 40 as the hosts were bowled out just short of the target, whilst Elliott Hooper picked up three wickets. Sam Grant, who was Sussex’s Academy Player of the Year last season, top-scored for Brighton & Hove with 61.
The Development XI are next in action when they travel to Three Bridges this Sunday (12.30pm start).
