ACADEMY: Grant added to 2013 intake14-Feb-2013
Further to the original announcement regarding Sussex’s Academy intake last month, the Club have confirmed the addition of Sam Grant to the programme.
Grant is a 17 year-old all-rounder, who bowls left-arm seam and bats in the top-order. He plays his Club Cricket for Steyning in the Sussex Cricket League, and he is the latest player to have been accepted on to the programme.
The Brighton College student will join Georgia Adams, Harry Finch, Ollie Graham, Josh Hayward, Elliott Hooper, Fynn Hudson-Prentice, Callum Jackson, Tim Moses, Abidine Sakande, Leo Cammish and Ben Shoare in the setup.
It was Sussex’s connections at the College which brought Grant to the attention of Cricket Performance Manager Keith Greenfield, with former Sussex Women’s player and Director of Cricket at Brighton College Alexia Walker, and Les Lenham who has of course been involved with the County for over 60 years, having worked closely with Sam over the past year.
Greenfield said, “Les approached me earlier in the year about Sam and how well he was developing, so we kept an eye on him and invited him to practice with our Development Squads and Academy.
“He performed very well and we had no hesitation in offering Sam a place on the Academy. He clearly has the drive to improve his skills and we look forward to helping him achieve his goals and aspirations”.
He will join the existing eleven players on a bespoke yearly programme covering physical, technical, mental, tactical and life skills. These are delivered by Sussex’s professional coaching staff, primarily on a one to one basis, with all programmes overseen by Greenfield at The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground, Hove and the Sutton Winson Academy Ground in Blackstone.
