ACADEMY: Thrilling last over game with Cuckfield

Sussex’s Development/Academy XI were in action last weekend in the Sussex Premier League and were held to a draw by Cuckfield in a close affair on Sunday.

Batting first, the club side made 217 all out in the 58th over as the spin of Elliott Hooper (pictured) proved fruitful for Sussex, as he took 4 for 48 from 14 overs. George Garton and Tim Moses also picked up a couple of wickets each.

In reply, Tom Haines (24) and Beck Hemingway (41) led the top order but it was a fine knock of 81 from Moses, who smashed 4 fours and 7 sixes in his 57 ball effort, that took Sussex much closer to the total.

However, being eight wickets down they couldn’t quite get over the line and finished only four runs short of Cuckfield’s total in a thrilling match that went down to the last over.

The Development XI are next in action on Sunday 26th May when they travel to take on Chichester Priory Park CC.
