AGM: Sussex elect Jim Parks as President

28-Mar-2013

The former Sussex and England wicketkeeper-batsman Jim Parks was elected President of the Club at the Sussex County Cricket Club AGM lastnight. The event took place with well over 100 members in attendance and Parks, who featured in the Sussex team that won the Gillette Cup exactly 50 years ago, was formally elected after the Board proposed him for the position.

Former Sussex players Mushtaq Ahmed, Alan Oakham and Ian Thomson were elected as Vice-Presidents to mark their contribution to the County. Outgoing President Bryan Bedson was elected as a Vice-President, together with John Pengelly after serving for 14 years on the Board.

Chief Executive Zac Toumazi spoke of the desire to compete as a County both on and off the pitch whilst Treasurer Simon Crundwell informed the members of the Club's financial outlook which looked healthy for 2013 but was challenging given the economy.

Cricket Performance Manager Keith Greenfield focused on the Cricket Academy and the importance of Sussex producing homegrown players through the necessary pathways. Sussex has a good track record with 19 of the intake having graduated to the professional squad since the formation of the Academy.

Sussex Chairman Jim May said, “We approach the new season with confidence under our new captain Ed Joyce. The team has retained the Emirates Airline t20 trophy during the pre-season tour of the UAE and we are well placed to compete for success in all three formats.

“The County is looking forward to a full programme in 2013 including the prestigious visit of the Australians to The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground in July.”
