Sussex County Cricket Club have confirmed the release of seamer Amjad Khan following the end of his three-year contract.

The 33 year-old leaves Sussex after three seasons at Hove, throughout which he has been a valuable asset to the team, both on and off the pitch.

Featuring in all three formats of the game, the former England man's highlights have included taking five wickets against Middlesex in the 2012 County Championship and hitting a crucial 16 off the last over against Yorkshire in the 40-over competition of the same year.

Last season his appearances were limited to Second Eleven cricket due to a broken wrist which required surgery and after budget discussions for the new season, it has been agreed that Amjad will be released to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

Sussex’s Professional Cricket Manager Mark Robinson said, “Amjad will be sorely missed by everyone at the club. He’s been a matchwinner for us in all formats and set great examples to our younger bowlers. He has been unlucky with his wrist injury sustained in the final year of his contract and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Khan said, “I’d like to thank all the players and the staff at Sussex, who have helped make the last three years so enjoyable. My departure is an amicable one and I look forward to seeing my friends and former colleagues be successful in the future.”

Khan is currently in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, engaged in the final month of his off-season involvement with a cricket outreach programme and in the training activity of the Warriors franchise.
