BRIGHTON LIONS: Fireworks Night a success at The PROBIZ

14-Nov-2012

The recent Brighton Lions Fireworks Night, hosted at The PROBIZ County Ground, Hove and in conjunction with the Sussex County Cricket Supporters Club, was another huge success with nearly 8,000 people in attendance.

The annual event, this year sponsored by Rendezvous Casino, has previously been recommended in The Times as one of the top ten displays in the UK, with proceeds for the evening going towards the Lions’ continued money-raising efforts.

The Brighton Lions Club is part of the International Association of Lions Clubs which have been serving the local, national and international communities since 1950.

The Lions use the money raised from the event for a range of different organisations, including last year’s support of the Martlets Hospice as well as paying for pantomime trips for different schools across the city. In the past they have also founded ‘Leo House at Home’ which provides five nurses at Chestnut Tree House to help families with children with life limiting illnesses.

Profits made from the evening itself totalled in excess of £25,000 with the Sussex CC Supporters Club also benefitting from the event.

Lisa Dilloway, President of the Brighton Lions said that they were delighted with the wonderful turnout for the annual Fireworks Display at The PROBIZ, “In these difficult times it is hard for people to find the money to go to events so it is amazing and very encouraging that people will still turn out to support Brighton Lions in raising money for charitable causes.

“The Fireworks Display is our biggest money raiser and all profit goes to local charities and deserving causes. On behalf of Brighton Lions I would like to say a very big thank you to all who came and supported us".

Ian Waring, Operations and Facilities Manager at Sussex County Cricket Club, said, “We are delighted to support the local community by hosting this fantastic event which is hugely popular in the local area. It is a great fundraiser for the Lions and we are proud to host them and the local community at our ground. Since inception, the event has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for good causes locally and long may that tradition continue.”
