CT20: Another Taste of the Caribbean..!12-Jan-2012
Ever wondered what a day in the life of the touring Sussex cricketers consisted of.....meal-wise?!
12th January 2012
So we woke to news of a Marlon Samuels assault in the last three overs, which saw Jamaica - our next opponents - to victory over the Combined Campuses and Colleges. Not exactly the talk of the breakfast table but got a few mutterings!
That reminds me - these young lads can't half eat and its dead tough to keep up with them! Breakfast will be a healthy plate of hot food with toast, lunch will generally be a mountain of salad, veg, and meat and fish, and dinner will be the same! Oh, and don't forget the option for a drop of soup for starter at dinner, and puddings on all meals (well, not breakfast unless you include fruit and yogurt!).
And now they have found "Afternoon Tea" on the Pier! Managed to keep that from them for two days but no longer so now they get a 4pm top up of energy from scones, tea, and finger sandwiches.
Mind you, they work it off with training sessions most evening pre-dinner, so its far from nets-sleep-play- sleep in terms of activity. They eat well, but work very hard. Put us old timers to shame by the beachside!
Practise today was leisurely. The groundstaff were delighted to take an unscheduled hour off so we could use the outfield for fielding (take note Mr Mackay!), though they spent most of that time chasing a rat round the stadium with sticks trying to beat it! For those animal lovers out there, I am pleased to say that no rats were harmed during the practise.
One or two of the lads are a bit sore. It is the same always - that first game takes it out of you and no matter how much gym work and net sessions you put in, you feel it. However, the squad is fit and raring to go . . . for another meal!
