DEAF DAY: ‘Deaf Cricket Day’ to take place at Arundel Castle

24-May-2016

The Sussex Cricket Foundation have teamed up with the Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation to organise a County ‘Deaf Cricket Day’ for children across Sussex, and neighbouring counties.

This event follows on from last week’s annual Sussex Cricket Foundation Disability day, supported by Ortus Business Finance, which was attended by over 250 young people and adults with a range of disabilities.

This ground-breaking event will take place at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground on Tuesday 5th July, and deaf children from many different schools and organisations have been invited to receive coaching and try their hand at cricket activities, with friendly matches also taking place. The Sussex Cricket Foundation Roadshow, with its inflatable cricket equipment, will also be present on the day.

Sussex launched their first ever County Junior Deaf Team last year, running two boys sides (U14s and U15s) and a mixed age girls side, and are now looking to expand their provision for deaf children in Sussex, and indeed beyond, as children from counties such as Essex, Hampshire, Kent, Middlesex and Surrey will also be invited.

The event will again be supported by Ortus Business Finance and will be delivered in association with Hamilton Lodge School and College for Deaf Children in Brighton.

Sussex Cricket Development Officer, and County Junior Deaf Manager Matt Parsons said, “Following the successful launch of our first ever County Junior Deaf teams last year, we’re delighted to bring a showcase day to Arundel Castle this summer.

“The event is the first of its kind in the south-east and one of only a few that have taken place across the country, so this really is a unique opportunity to encourage more deaf youngsters to get involved in cricket.”
