DISABILITY DAY: Returns to The PROBIZ14-May-2012
Sussex County Cricket Club, along with the Sussex Cricket Board, will once again be holding the Santander Disability Cricket Day at The PROBIZ County Ground, Hove, for the second year running.
The event will take place on Thursday 24th May between 9.30am and 1.30pm as a prelude to the Clydesdale Bank 40 floodlit clash with Yorkshire Carnegie which takes place later on the same day.
Disability Day was a huge success last year at Sussex with a range of different activities held on the outfield, including The England Physically Disabled squad who played against Portslade 1st XI, whilst Sussex’s Visually Impaired Squad faced a SCCC Staff Team.
Cricket for disabled participants has grown significantly over the past few years and Sussex are once again using this day as a launch pad to get more people involved. There will be the chance for those with a disability to be coached by professionals, play in small sided games and there will be lots of fun activities around The PROBIZ for young people and adults alike.
In attendance on the day will be Les Randall, Assistant Coach of the England Learning Disability Squad, and Fred Bridges, who is a member of the England Physically Disabled Team.
Roger Newman, Sussex Cricket Board’s Development Manager, said, “Disability Day was a real success for us last year and we’re indebted to our Community Partners Santander who have made it possible for us to host this event at Hove once again.
“We’re committed to encouraging people with disabilities to take up cricket in a variety of capacities and this event allows us to showcase how everyone can get actively involved.
“Anyone of any age is welcome, it’s a completely free event and hopefully as a result of the day, many more people will get involved in cricket”.
The ECB Cricket Factory, table cricket and face painting are included in the activities, whilst food and drink will be available all day.
Entrance into the ground for Disability Day will be free of charge, as will any coaching provided. If you would like any more information, or would like to come along, please contact Roger Newman by calling 01273 827104 or via email – email@example.com
