DUBAI: One extra name in the squad!15-Mar-2013
Sussex will be continuing their preparations for the 2013 season next week, when they fly out to Dubai and escape the chilly British weather to play some competitive cricket with the sun on their backs. But there will be one name in the squad who isn’t used to such pre-season preparation, and that is our lucky competition winner who will be joining the team!
18 year-old William Poston, of Horsham, was the very lucky winner of our ‘Unlock the Sharktank’ competition which we launched in December. We had thousands of entries and William, a big Sussex fan, was the name plucked out of the hat by Professional Cricket Manager Mark Robinson to join the squad in Dubai.
He didn’t believe that he had won the trip of a lifetime when he spoke to Robbo on the phone after the draw, but after re-assurances from the staff he was delighted that he’ll get to rub shoulders with some of his heroes as they look to defend the Emirates Airline Twenty20 Trophy. He’ll not only be the team’s lucky mascot during the tournament but will be running drinks and even get to practise and warm-up with the boys.
William, a college student who also plays for Southwater Cricket Club, will be taking his father Simon on the trip – a member at Hove – and they are both pictured above with Sussex stars (L-R) Chris Nash, Ed Joyce and Luke Wright when they came to meet up with their new ‘team-mates’ recently.
Congratulations William. Everyone at Sussex hope you enjoy the trip and inspire the boys on to glory in Dubai!
