DUBAI: Sussex retain the Emirates Airline Twenty20

Sussex Sharks retained the Emirates Airline Twenty20 Trophy at 7he Sevens Stadium in Dubai today as they comfortably beat the Fly Emirates XI in the final by 89 runs.

Following their earlier victory over the MCC this morning, Sussex won the toss and after electing to bat, made 172 for 8 from their 20 overs as Luke Wells, opening the batting, top-scored with an impressive knock of 54.

Chris Jordan, batting at number four, also made 42 whilst Chris Nash, who had been in such good form in the previous two matches, hit 18 runs from only 7 balls to propel Sussex’s total.

In reply, the Fly Emirates XI never really looked like mounting a serious challenge and could only limp to 83 all out in the 18th over. Wells was pick of the bowlers with his off-spin, taking 3 for 17 from his four overs whilst there were two wickets apiece for Lewis Hatchett and Michael Rippon.

Sussex claim the Trophy for the second year running after beating all three of the other sides in the competition, and continue their pre-season tour of the Emirates with a 40-over match against the MCC Young Cricketers tomorrow at the Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

They will then face Lancashire in another 40-over match on Monday before a two-day game against the same opponents, with both matches taking place at the ICC Global Cricket Academy.
