DUBAI: Sussex through to final of Emirates T2021-Mar-2014
Sussex are through to the final of the Emirates Airline T20 tournament in Dubai after a 25-run victory over Lancashire at 7the Sevens Stadium this morning.
Having lost the toss and being asked to bat first, Sussex made 148 for 6 from their 20 overs as skipper Michael Yardy top-scored with 59 from 41 balls.
Ashar Zaidi chipped in with an unbeaten 24 whilst Matt Prior (21) and Harry Finch (20) were the other main contributors. Jordan Clark was the pick of Lancashire’s bowlers with a haul of 4 for 18.
In reply, the Old Trafford outfit got off to a slow start and at the halfway stage were 37 for 2 as Sussex put the squeeze on. They did look to up the stakes later on in the innings but they fell well short of the Sharks’ total, closing on 123 for 8 after 20, handing Sussex a 25-run win.
Chris Liddle (2 for 13) was the chief destroyer for Sussex whilst Jon Lewis picked up 2 for 34. There were also scalps for Rory Hamilton-Brown, Steffan Piolet and Will Beer.
