DUBAI: Thrilling encounter finishes in a tie25-Mar-2013
Sussex continued their pre-season tour of the UAE this weekend with a thrilling tie against the MCC Young Cricketers at the Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi in a 40-over match on Saturday.
From their allotted 40 overs Sussex made 242 for 5 with Captain Ed Joyce top-scoring with 66 from 65 balls. Ben Brown (38) and Rory Hamilton-Brown (35) were also among the main contributors to the total.
The MCC made good progress in reply and required 11 from the final over of the match to be bowled by Chris Liddle. Adam Dobb, who had only just come to the crease, hit a six over fine leg to leave 2 needed from the final 2 deliveries.
A single came from the next delivery, leaving one needed off the last with ex-Sussex boy - Jordan Rollings facing his old team mate. It was Liddle that used all his experience to produce a leg stump yorker which ricocheted to an adjacent fielder preventing the run and the match was tied. Liddle and trialist Andrew Miller both took two wickets apiece in the MCC’s innings of 242 for 6.
