ENGLAND: Finch in the runs for Under-19's

13-Feb-2014

Sussex's Harry Finch hit a half-century but couldn't stop England suffering a four-wicket loss to Bangladesh in their last warm-up for the Under-19 World Cup.

Finch’s 53 and Ed Barnard’s 54 aided a score of 218 for seven after Will Rhodes chose to bat first in Abu Dhabi.

However, Mosaddek Hossain’s unbeaten 75 from 78 deliveries, featuring nine fours, saw the Tigers overhaul that with nine balls unused despite two wickets each for the economical Matthew Fisher and Rob Sayer.

Besides Finch and Rhodes’ fifties, made from number two and five respectively, England were boosted by 33 from Ben Duckett, who blasted 92 in Monday’s thrashing of Scotland.

Finch was caught and bowled by off-spinner Mehedy Hasan, who struck twice like left-arm seamer Abu Haider.

In the reply Shadman Islam hit a steady 38 from the top of the order before Hossain took over. Although Fisher and Sayer returned 2-33 and 2-35 respectively from 10-over allocations, Hossain saw Bangladesh to victory at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

The same senior international venue will host England’s first competitive game - versus hosts the United Arab Emirates, who thumped Zimbabwe by six wickets today.

England’s other group opponents today had contrasting fortunes: Sri Lanka beat Namibia but New Zealand lost to West Indies.

There were also warm-up wins today for Afghanistan, Canada, Pakistan and South Africa.
