ENGLAND UNDER-19's: Garton set to star for England in World Cup

Sussex’s left-arm seamer George Garton will soon be heading to Bangladesh to represent England in the ICC Under-19’s World Cup.

18 year-old Garton is a Brighton-born player and has progressed through the Sussex’s Youth and Academy ranks. He featured for England Under-19’s during 2015 against the touring Australians, and spent some of this winter on the Potential England Performance Programme (PEPP) in South Africa.

He signed a Junior Professional Contract with Sussex back in November, which is the first step on the ladder to becoming a full professional.

The squad fly out to Dubai next week for a week of practice, including a warm-up match against South Africa on January 18th, before flying out to Bangladesh two days later. The squad spent three weeks in Sri Lanka before Christmas to gain valuable experience in similar conditions to Bangladesh.

England will open their campaign against Fiji in Chittagong on January 27th, with further group games against West Indies and Zimbabwe.

This will be the 11th tournament since it began in 1988, with England’s sole win coming 10 years later when a team captained by Owais Shah and including Graeme Swann and Rob Key beat New Zealand in the final in Johannesburg.
