FOOTBALL: Sussex CCC XI to take on a Brighton & Hove Albion XI this week01-Oct-2012
There will be a meeting of two of the biggest sporting organisations in Sussex on Wednesday (3rd October) evening this week, when Sussex County Cricket Club move the goalposts to take on a Brighton and Hove Albion XI at Hill Park, home of Saltdean United Football Club (7.30pm kick off).
The game will take place as part of a fundraising initiative between the two Clubs for a project called the East Brighton Community Football Club, and there is a ‘return’ fixture in the pipeline for next summer when Sussex CCC will host the Albion for a Twenty20 match, in aid of the Sussex Cricket in the Community Trust (SCCT), which was formed over 25 years ago to create opportunities and facilities for young people in Sussex to experience the pleasures and social benefits of playing cricket.
The Sussex XI will include a number of current and former players amongst their ranks as well as staff from many different areas of the Club. Will Beer, Ben Brown and Matt Machan will be in the squad as well as former Sussex players Ollie Rayner and Tom Smith, now of Middlesex.
And Albion, who will face Ipswich Town in the npower Championship the previous evening, will be able to boast former professionals Paul Rogers, Kerry Mayo and Paul Watson in their squad.
Simon Funnell, one of the Sussex Cricket Board’s Development Managers at The PROBIZ County Ground, Hove, said, “We are hoping that this link-up will become an annual occurrence and both raise a good amount of funds for our respective projects.
“Hopefully fans of both Sussex CCC and Brighton and Hove Albion will make their way down to Hill Park on Wednesday. It should make for an exciting game with the Albion desperate not to lose at their own game to the cricketers, and likewise when we switch sports next year”.
The match kicks off at 7.30pm on Wednesday evening, and entrance is priced at £3.00 for Adults and £1.00 for Juniors. Refreshments will be available from the bar.
