GUERNSEY: Sussex strengthening ties with Guernsey

Further to the announcement of Sussex County Cricket Club and The Guernsey Cricket Board announcing a formal signing of a ‘document of understanding’ last month, another landmark event in the partnership will take place tomorrow.

Guernsey will be taking on a Canada XI at The PROBIZ County Ground, Hove, tomorrow in a ‘home’ fixture, a 50-over match (11.00am start).

Another example of the partnership in action was the joint GCB/SCCC EPP Training Camp in Abu Dhabi over Easter, whilst Sussex’s Academy side recently travelled to Guernsey to play a Guernsey XI at King George V Fields, a facility that is planned to be brought up to first-class level in the hope that Sussex will be able to host first team matches over there in the future.

Guernsey Cricket Board CEO, Mark Latter, said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for the guys both to be playing Canada and also at The PROBIZ County Ground in Hove.

"This is further tangible evidence of the benefits of the relationship with Sussex CCC and all at GCB are very grateful to Dave Brooks and the team in Hove for this opportunity.”

The GCB will also host their Guernsey Premier League Twenty20 tournament this summer and in another demonstration of Sussex’s relationship with Guernsey, Andrew Hodd will play as one of the four Professional Players in the competition.

He follows in the footsteps of team-mate Will Beer who played in the tournament last year whilst former SCCC star James Kirtley is one of the players taking part this season.

Dave Brooks, Sussex’s Chief Executive, said “We are delighted to welcome this Guernsey team to Hove for what will be a special day for the County and both teams. It is really important we showcase the talent that the island has so that our partnership may build and flourish."

Guernsey’s squad for the match against Canada tomorrow is: Stuart Le Prevost (capt), Jamie Nussbaumer, GH Smit, Ross Kneller, Tom Kimber, Jeremy Frith, Stuart Bisson, Andy Biggins, Tim Duke, Max Ellis, Ben Ferbrache, David Hooper.

Entrance is FREE to the match at The PROBIZ tomorrow and you can track Guernsey’s progress via the Cric HQ tab on Sussex’s website.
