ICC T20: Wright and Joyce in warm-up runs17-Sep-2012
Sussex’s Luke Wright hit 35 from 29 balls this morning for England as they warmed-up for the defence of their ICC World Twenty20 crown with a narrow 9-run win over Australia.
He put on 88 with Alex Hales as the pair inspired England to a total of 172 for 6 from their 20 overs as the Nondescripts Cricket Ground in Colombo, ahead of their tournament opener against Afghanistan on Friday.
Mike Hussey struck 71 from 51 deliveries for the Aussies but he couldn’t see them home as they fell nine runs short.
There was also Sussex interest at the Moors Sports Club in Colombo as skipper Ed Joyce hit 39 from 36 balls for Ireland in their 5-run warm-up win over Bangladesh.
Paul Stirling top-scored with 71 for the Irish as they reached 164 for 6, whilst three wickets for Kevin O’Brien ensured they narrowly managed to defend the total.
