IRELAND: Joyce strikes century in Sharjah15-Mar-2013
Ed Joyce struck his maiden first-class century for Ireland this week as they took control of their ICC Intercontinental Cup match against the UAE in Sharjah.
The Sussex skipper hit 155 from only 172 balls as the Irish declared on 589 for 7, with Leicestershire’s Niall O’Brien also making a century.
The Emirates were bowled out for 360 and on the final day, Ireland are well ahead of their hosts and six points to the good in the competition. Click HERE to view the Cricinfo scorecard.
Fellow Sussex batsman Matt Machan has also been in Intercontinental Cup action this week in Abu Dhabi but his Scotland side were heavily beaten by Afghanistan, as they were defeated by an innings and 5 runs. Machan batted at number three in both innings but made only 8 and 6 respectively as he couldn’t replicate his impressive one-day form for his country.
Both players will be joining up with the Sussex squad as they head out to Dubai next week.
