IRELAND: Joyce to feature in Caribbean Tour17-Jan-2014
Sussex’s skipper Ed Joyce has been selected in the Ireland squad for their tour of the West Indies which takes place later this month.
Cricket Ireland have named a squad of fifteen for the Caribbean tour. The team will play in the West Indies domestic 50-over competition, the Nagico Super50, followed by two T20I’s and an ODI against the West Indies in Jamaica, however Joyce will only feature in the international matches.
He most recently featured for Ireland in the ICC Intercontinental Cup Final in early December in which they beat Afghanistan by 122 runs in Dubai.
Craig Young, who has featured for the Sussex Second Eleven over the past couple of seasons and also plays for Brighton & Hove CC in the Sussex Premier League, has also been selected after making his first-class debut for his country at the end of last season.
Brighton & Hove skipper Matt Wood, who has captained Young for the past four seasons at club level said, “Having seen the injury setbacks which have held back his talent, it’s great to see him bounce back and be selected to represent Ireland in the Caribbean.
“It’s a real testament to his character that he’s come back stronger than ever and I look forward to seeing his aggression and pace on the field for Ireland. I couldn’t be happier for Craig and he really deserves this opportunity.”
