Sussex Cricket County Cricket Club is saddened to record the death of John Ebdon MBE DL who passed away peacefully at St Catherine’s Hospice in Crawley on Monday 7th September. He was a Vice President of the club and his last visit to watch his beloved Sussex CCC was on 15th June at Arundel Castle.

John served as a Committee Member at Hove between 1998 and 2009. In earlier years John was a playing member of Sutton Cricket Club and until recently, President of Slinfold Cricket Club. He was elected as a Member of MCC in 1980.

John was born on 3rd April 1940 and qualified as a Master Builder in 1962. He was responsible for many notable sporting projects including The Pavilion at The Oval, and grandstands at Goodwood and Cheltenham Racecourses, and he retired as Deputy Managing Dirctor of James Longley & Co Ltd of Crawley

Away from cricket and business John was heavily involved in the church and other voluntary work and he was awarded the MBE in 2011.

Jim May, Sussex Chairman said, "John was a valued colleague who was a source of wise counsel to Sussex. Everyone at Sussex Cricket would like to send their condolences to John’s family at this difficult time".

The funeral will take place at 12noon on Thursday, 24th September at St Mary's Parish Church, The Causeway, Horsham and afterwards at the Barn Church Centre in the Causeway. The family will welcome John’s friends to attend.
