JUNIORS: Another victory for Sussex's Under-15's team

Last week we brought you news of our Under-15's team who have been in sparkling form this season, winning 5 out of 8 ECB County Cup Group 3 matches, a run that has included beating Surrey both home and away.

The latest win came at The Blackstone Academy Ground, sponsored by Hurstpierpoint College, on Friday against Essex. Having won the toss, Sussex batted and Tom Gordon (81) and Tom Clark (58) were the mainstays of a big total of 252 for 7 off 50 overs, aided by the middle-order who also contributed well.

In reply, the visitors off to a good start with a half-century opening stand, which was broken once Ollie Carter ran out Alan Jones. It turned out to be the slice of luck Sussex were looking for. Spinner Joe Pocklington gained two quick wickets before Essex steadied the ship. The fourth-wicket stand took Essex from 78 through to 141, but it was Pocklington who struck with the first ball of his second spell. The wicket seemed to take the heart and heat out of the chase as Essex ended 223 all out.

Pocklington finished with figures of 3 for 40, whilst there were also two wickets apiece for Dom Morgan, Scott Lenham, and Gordon, to add to his 81.

The Under-15's take their place in the Quarter-Final of the ECB County Cup on Wednesday 17th August. We shall bring you action from that match later in the month.
