JUNIORS: Sussex's Under-15s in fine ECB County Cup form

Sussex's Under-15's sealed an impressive win over Suffolk at Copdock

This season, we have been bringing you updates from various Sussex County Age Group squads and this week is the turn of the Under 15's side, who travelled to Copdock, Suffolk this week Group 3 of the ECB County Cup.

Sussex were asked to bat first and skipper Alastair Orr made a nice 43 against a spirited opening attack where the conditions offered swing and seam. The good work was carried on by Max Lincoln (30) and Ollie Carter, who formed a partnership of 80. Carter eased to a half-century, eventually making 80, before Thomas Naish made a well timed 23 at number seven, however the score slipped from 229 for 7 to 233 all out.

In reply, the hosts got off to a good start reaching 29 without loss. Sussex were looking for inspiration and they got it when skipper Orr produced a wonderful run out. All of the Suffolk top order got off to good starts but Sussex kept very disciplined in the field. Wicketkeeper Mason Robinson produced two smart stumpings, whilst Dominic Morgan took a nice swirling catch out in the deep on the run. Suffolk' Harvey Skinner gave them some hope with a very quick 39, but Joe Pocklington and H Carlyon took three wickets apiece to ensure that Sussex won by 61 runs, and gained four points in the process.

Ollie Carter, from Seaford CC, was Man of the Match with his winning innings but the afternoon reflected a very classy team effort. The Under 15's are back in action on Friday (today) when Essex visit The Blackstone Academy Ground, sponsored by Hurstpierpoint College. In a tight group, Sussex will need a yet another win to progress to the quarter-final.
