KSL ROAD TO HOVE: Race for Finals Day hots up

Sussex’s local side, Southern Vipers, suffered their first defeat of the 2017 Kia Super League as they lost a rain-affected match to local rivals, Surrey Stars on Sunday.

Chasing 128 to win, the Vipers were forced off by the weather after 16.2 overs having reached 100-7.

No further play was possible and so the Stars triumphed by four runs under the Duckworth/Lewis method.

The result saw the Vipers slip to second place with ten points from their three games, with the Stars taking their place at the top of the table.

With two more games to play in the group, Southern Vipers are well-placed to secure a place at Finals Day at The 1st Central County Ground, Hove on Friday 1st September.

The top three sides at the end of the group stage will qualify for Finals Day. The winner of the group will go straight into the floodlit final, with second and third battling it out in a semi-final earlier in the afternoon.

The Vipers’ next match is away to Lancashire Thunder this Wednesday (23rd August), before they make their first appearance on Sussex soil when they play Yorkshire Diamonds at Arundel Castle this Saturday (26th August) in their final match.
