LIDDLE: Lids signs new two-year contract with Sussex25-Oct-2013
Sussex CCC are delighted to announce that left-arm seamer Chris Liddle has signed a new two-year contract with the County, which will see him remain at The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground until at least the end of the 2015 season.
The 29 year-old moved to Hove in 2006 and following his recovery from injury he has become a permanent fixture for Sussex in the one-day formats, both in the Yorkshire Bank 40 and the Friends Life t20.
He has been the Sharks’ most consistent bowler in one-day cricket over the past two seasons and was their leading Twenty20 wicket-taker this season. In 2012 he also topped the Twenty20 averages for the Sharks, taking 17 wickets with a stunning best of 5 for 17 against Middlesex. His form earned him a place in the Dhaka Gladiators team, who won the Bangladesh Premier League earlier this year.
He was also the leading Sussex wicket-taker in the 40-over format in 2013, claiming 19 scalps in eleven matches.
Liddle said of his new contract, “I’m delighted to have signed for another two years with Sussex. I’ve had a good last couple of seasons, particularly in Twenty20 and I’m determined to continue that form and hopefully help the team progress further.
“We want to be challenging for trophies every season in all formats of the game and I want to keep contributing by taking wickets and helping the team win matches”.
Sussex’s Professional Cricket Manager Mark Robinson said, “Lids is one of the best one-day bowlers in the country and he is also very determined to break through into the four-day team. It is that type of hunger to improve and deliver that always excites the coaches”.
