LITTLEHAMPTON ACADEMY: Official Partnership Launch08-May-2012
Thursday 3rd May saw the official launch of the partnership between the Littlehampton Academy and Sussex Cricket.
The partnership is aimed at fostering the links between the Academy, Sussex County Cricket Club (SCCC), Sussex Cricket Board (SCB) and Sussex based cricket clubs and community groups. The launch was marked with the opening ceremony of the new indoor nets facility, jointly funded by the ECB and Sussex Cricket Board. Mark Robinson (SCCC Professional Cricket Manager) and Joe Gatting (SCCC first-team player) were in attendance to cut the ribbon along with members of the SCB Development team and members and players of the West Area Cricket Association.
The high specification of design ranks these nets among the highest in the County. As well as being the training camp of the Western Warriors, who form the crucial part of the Sussex Player Pathway between club and county level, both the Academy and Sussex Cricket are united in their intention to use this facility reach out into the wider community and to allow all to be able to participate in cricket.
SCB Head of Recreational Cricket Tim Shutt said: “We are delighted at the launch of this partnership. During the first meeting to discuss this venture, the mutual enthusiasm to make this work was clear to see. This is now a fantastic indoor cricket facility which is intended to be used by all areas of the community and by players of all abilities. To see the new nets in place is a great launch pad and we look forward to growing this partnership for many years to come. Thanks must go to Steve Jewell and Geoff Davis (Principal and Vice Principal) for their desire and commitment to launch and complete the project, and in particular to Business Manager Roger Melody who managed the net project from start to finish .”
