MACHAN: Matt back at school to coach youngsters25-Feb-2013
Students at Handcross Park School in Haywards Heath were given a boost recently when Sussex & Scotland batsman Matt Machan visited the West Sussex School to run a Twenty20 master class.
Machan is the second Sussex professional to visit the school this year with Luke Wells also having coached at Handcross.
Handcross Park currently have ten players in the Sussex Junior Age Group teams and in recent years have built up their commitment to cricket with a new academy, focusing on everything from technique to fitness with regular guest coaches from Sussex.
Machan, pictured above, a former Sussex Age Group player himself who has progressed through the ranks with the County, has made an impact in Sussex's one day team over the past couple of seasons and he is currently in Dubai where Scotland face Afghanistan in the T20 format and crucial World Cricket League matches, which will hopefully lead to World Cup qualification.
Machan said, "It's a pleasure to work and coach talented youngsters who have a passion and talent for the game. The school is taking sport seriously and it is great to see, with students reaping the rewards and making the smooth transition from school to County age group cricket.
Matt Green, in charge of cricket at Handcross Park and a current Sussex Youth Coach said, "Cricket and sport in general at the school has gone from strength to strength. We now run an academy all year round which covers all aspects of the game, from technique to fitness.
"Having a player and coach of Matt's ability work with our young players is an excellent opportunity and gives the youngsters in the academy something to aspire to, especially with a number of the boys involved in Sussex's Age Group setup".
Handcross have an open morning on Saturday 2nd March. For more information and to book a place please email: Ms Tavener firstname.lastname@example.org
