MAGOFFIN: Aussie star signs new one-year deal at Hove

Sussex CCC have announced that Australian overseas star Steve Magoffin will remain at The County Ground for the 2014 season after putting pen to paper on a new one-year deal.

The 33 year-old Queenslander has been at Hove for two seasons now and during both years he has finished as leading wicket-taker for Sussex in the LV=County Championship. His new deal will keep him with the County until at least the end of next season.

His debut campaign for Sussex in 2012 yielded 57 wickets and he beat his tally in 2013 as he took 63 wickets at an average of only 21.49. The highlight of the year came in the incredible two-day victory over Somerset at Horsham, as his magical match figures of 12 for 31, including 8 for 20 in the first innings, helped blow away the visiting side.

Magoffin said of his new contract, “I am delighted that Sussex have asked me to continue at the club for the 2014 season.

“The last two years have been very enjoyable and I hope to continue to perform well for Sussex this coming season.”

Sussex’s Captain Ed Joyce said, “It's great news to have Mags around for at least another season. He's led our attack brilliantly in four-day cricket in the last couple of years and has been one of the best performers in county cricket over that period as well.

“He is certainly a man in demand so to get his signature for another season is a relief.”
