NEWS: Big hitter Nathan wins 1st Central Swing for the Stands

The half-time competition at Sussex Sharks’ 2017 NatWest T20 Blast matches came to a dramatic conclusion on Friday night.

1st Central Swing for the Stands gave three spectators at each of Sussex’s Blast fixtures at The 1st Central County Ground the chance to win some fantastic prizes by seeing how far they could hit a ball in front of a packed crowd.

The overall winning distance wasn’t hit until the Sharks’ final game of the tournament; last Friday’s win against Essex Eagles.

Nathan Mitchell topped the leaderboard with his 33-metre effort and walked away with the overall prize of a 49” Sony 4K Ultra HD LED TV courtesy of 1st Central.

Alongside the five previous on-the-night winners, Nathan also took home a £50 Amazon voucher.

One of those, and the leader until Nathan’s last gasp effort, was Ben Schaefer whose 29-metre effort saw him finish in second place. Owen Howick took third place with 27 metres.

The three contestants at each match were decided by a raffle, with all the proceeds donated to two fantastic charities, Rockinghorse Children’s Charity and Sussex Cricket Foundation.

Ahead of the competition, the Sussex players took on Swing for the Stands themselves.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Nathan’s winning hit was some way behind the longest professional effort – Stuart Whittingham’s 64.1 metres.

Nathan did manage to beat a number of the Sussex playing and coaching staff, however. The full leaderboard and a video of the Sussex Sharks players’ attempts are available HERE.
