NWCF: Success for Sussex Clubs across NatWest CricketForce 2012

04-Apr-2012

Another successful NatWest CricketForce season came to its conclusion over the weekend in a season that saw a record 65 clubs take part across all parts of Sussex. The County had two showcase clubs, firstly St. James Montefiore CC during the designated Pros and Staff visit weekend of March 17th and 18th , and secondly Chippingdale CC of Worthing during the official NWCF weekend on March 31st and April 1st.

On March 17th, SCCC Professionals and Staff visited six clubs, all of whom made valiant efforts to defy the elements. West Wittering CC, Roffey CC, Barcombe CC, Three Bridges CC, Madehurst CC and of course St. James Montefiore CC all delivered projects that made a tangible difference to their club, whether it be in the improvement of facilities or in engaging their local communities. As well making numerous facility improvements, St. James used the event to open their pavilion extension, with Sussex Chairman Jim May and Professional Cricket Manager Mark Robinson on hand to cut the ribbon.  Click HERE to view video footage for some of the highlights of St. James Montefiore CC event.

On Saturday 31st, the Cricket Force focus shifted to Chippingdale CC at the Rotary Ground, Worthing. The clubs First XI captain, Pete Mansell, amongst others, had spent the whole of the preceding week creating three changing rooms from what was previously one open planned layout. In true Cricket Force fashion, they used the Build Centre offer to help with materials for the development. The club also held the opening ceremony for their net outdoor net bay, a four-year project of planning and fund-raising delivered admirably under the leadership of Chairman Paul Baker and his Committee.

Photos below show John Barclay and Clare Connor OBE cutting the ribbon. The club, through the skill and tenacity of Committee member Paul Wood, has engaged an incredible 16 club sponsors, a remarkable effort showing what can be done. They also did a blog on the week preceding NWCF - http://worthingchippingdale.play-cricket.com/content/view.asp?id=10365235&cid=200

2013 will no doubt bring more exciting projects as clubs are really starting to see the opportunities this event provides, both in terms of in-kind support from local businesses and in galvanizing the local community.
