Following the recent success of the England men's and women's team in their recent Ashes series, the England Over 70's have won the Seevent Ashes Trophy, beating the Australia Over 70's 2-0.
England won the first test by 64 runs. England and Sussex Captain Hugh Milner elected to bat first, with England going on to post 164 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs. The main contributors for England were Neil Blackley (Hampshire) 44, Ron Martin (Berkshire) 23* and Milner 22. England then went onto bowl the Australians out for 100, with Milner being the pick of the bowlers taking 4 for 16 from 8 overs.
England won the second test by 8 wickets, in a high scoring affair. Australia won the toss, elected to bat, and posted 235 for 7 from their 50 overs. Bob Zielke (New South Wales) scored 106 whilst Brian Scollay (Sussex) took 2-52 for the fielding side. England went on to knock the runs off with 20 balls to spare. Blackley top scored with 78, whilst John Anderson (67), Barry Peay (52*) and Brian Booth (33*), all from Sussex, saw the game home and secured the Seevent Ashes Trophy for the home side.
The third test was abandoned with out a ball being bowled due to the weather.
