PRE-SEASON: Sussex announce squad to travel to Dubai19-Mar-2012
Sussex CCC have announced their squad to travel to Dubai for their pre-season preparations.
Michael Yardy will be leading the side as they fly out to the UAE on Tuesday 20th March and will play initially in the Emirates Airlines Twenty20 2012 Tournament, alongside Durham Dynamos, Lancashire Lightning and an MCC XI with the matches taking place at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai.
The tour’s primary objective though will be preparing the squad for four-day cricket with a program of practise sessions planned, culminating in a two-day game against Durham.
A 15-man playing squad has been named for the trip, which has a similar look to it as the one that travelled to the Caribbean T20 in January, with Lewis Hatchett and Luke Wells both added to the list after missing the tournament due to playing abroad at the time.
A number of members of the squad will be missing from the preparations though with both Monty Panesar and Matt Prior touring Sri Lanka with England, and Luke Wright playing in South Africa’s domestic T20 tournament. Murray Goodwin is due to return from Australia before the new season begins whilst Ed Joyce is currently with Ireland in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers.
Sussex will also take a near full complement of Coaching Staff to the UAE and Club Coach Mark Davis reiterated the benefits of a warm pre-season, “We’ve been training indoors at Hove but we’re looking forward to going away and getting some proper outdoor practice in the middle.
“We know what the conditions will be like there and we can really press on with our preparations ahead of the new season.”
