PREVIEW: Sharks welcome Gloucestershire for crucial match

10-Aug-2017

The second of Sussex Sharks’ three games in four days in the NatWest T20 Blast takes place on Friday evening (11th August, 7.00pm start) with Gloucestershire the visitors to The 1st Central County Ground, Hove.

Sussex have named the same 15-man squad that travelled to Lord’s for tonight’s encounter with Middlesex.

Squad:
Ross Taylor (captain)
Jofra Archer
Will Beer
Danny Briggs
Ben Brown
Laurie Evans
George Garton
Chris Jordan
Tymal Mills
Chris Nash
Ollie Robinson
Phil Salt
Stiaan van Zyl
David Wiese
Luke Wright

As the South Group of the tournament races to its conclusion, plenty is riding on Friday’s match. Ahead of Thursday’s fixtures, the Sharks are just a point off the quarter final spots, and only four points off the top of the group.

Both Sussex and second-placed Gloucestershire have a game in hand over the other three teams in the top five. A win on Friday for either side may well put them in a strong position to claim one of the home quarter final berths available to the teams finishing in first and second in the group.

Recent meetings between the Sharks and Gloucestershire have been exciting affairs. Their past six matches where a result has been achieved have seen margins of victories of just 11 runs, one run, three wickets, six runs, 13 runs and four runs.

Rain made a result impossible when the two sides met in the Blast earlier this season at Cheltenham, so both will be looking to finally exert their superiority on Friday.

Sussex captain, Ross Taylor, made 47 not out off 40 balls in that aborted fixture, his top score of the campaign so far.

With so much riding on tomorrow’s fixture, a big crowd and an extra-special atmosphere is expected at The 1st Central County Ground.

As is always the case, there will be plenty of food and drink options on offer and lots going on around the ground to keep the whole family entertained.

The Event Paparazzi will be snapping away as supporters enter the ground, with their photos appearing on the Sussex Cricket Facebook page soon after the match.

Plenty of free NatWest T20 Blast merchandise will be on offer, with the mischievous ‘dUMbPIRES’ helping to hand it out.

The FamZone Family Area will again be hosting free face painting and balloon modelling, as well as giving kids the chance to face up to Tymal Mills in the BatFast batting simulator.

The last remaining tickets for Friday’s match can be purchased online HERE. Depending on availability, supporters can buy tickets up until the first ball is bowled via the Print@Home option.

Live commentary will be available online from BBC Sussex HERE. Updates will be provided on the @SussexCCC social media channels via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
