PREVIEW: Sharks welcome Middlesex for Hove’s latest T20 clash

01-Jul-2016

Ross Taylor top-scored with 49 in lastnight's clash with Kent Spitfires

Sussex Sharks are straight back into NatWest T20 Blast action tonight when Middlesex are the visitors to The 1st Central County Ground, Hove (7.00pm start).

The Sharks are still fourth in the South Group table despite defeat by 10 runs to Kent Spitfires lastnight. Sussex currently have eight points from their eight matches and victory tonight at Hove would see them leapfrog opponents Middlesex into third spot.

Ross Taylor top-scored with 49 last night and there were impressive bowling spells from Ajmal Shahzad (2 for 29), Tymal Mills (1 for 15) and Chris Nash (1 for 16), as well as overseas debutant Nuwan Kulasekara.

The Sri Lankan international has signed a short-term deal at Hove for three NatWest T20 Blast matches and claimed figures of 1 for 28 from his four overs on debut.

The Sharks have won seven of their last nine games against Middlesex in this format and paceman Mills registered his career-best T20 figures against them last season, taking 4 for 22.

Chris Jordan has returned to the England camp ahead of their final ODI against Sri Lanka in Cardiff tomorrow, and Harry Finch takes his place in the 13-man squad.

The Sussex squad is as follows:

Will Beer
Danny Briggs
Craig Cachopa (wkt)
Harry Finch
George Garton
Nuwan Kulasekara
Matt Machan
Tymal Mills
Chris Nash
Phil Salt
Ajmal Shahzad
Ross Taylor
