PREVIEW: Sussex head to Leicester for latest Specsavers County Championship encounter

05-Sep-2016

Ed Joyce returns to the Sussex squad for tomorrow’s Specsavers County Championship clash with Leicestershire

Sussex are back into Specsavers County Championship action this week as they take on Leicestershire at Grace Road tomorrow (10.30am start).

Fourth in the table with three games left to play, Sussex will be aiming for a strong finish to the campaign despite promotion hopes having been dented, with only one team being elevated to the top-flight in this season’s competition.

Ed Joyce, who returns to the squad this week after international duty with Ireland, is hot on the heels of leading run-scorer Chris Nash, who has amassed 1,097 Championship runs and lies second in the division’s top-scorer’s list, with the Irishman currently on 1,002 runs.

Steve Magoffin is Sussex’s leading wicket-taker and his 5 for 88 against last week took his tally to 42 for the season.

Jofra Archer also returns to the squad but Sussex are still hampered by injury with no less than six first-team players unavailable, including skipper Luke Wright, who requires further time to recover from an arm injury, so Ben Brown continues as captain. Young seamer Abi Sakande is also added to the squad.

Chris Jordan is also unavailable as he prepares for England’s T20 clash with Pakistan on Wednesday, along with fellow Sussex paceman Tymal Mills.

The Sussex squad is as follows:

Jofra Archer
Danny Briggs
Ben Brown (c/wkt)
Craig Cachopa
Fynn Hudson-Prentice
Ed Joyce
Steve Magoffin
Chris Nash
Ollie Robinson
Abi Sakande
Phil Salt
Luke Wells
David Wiese
