PREVIEW: Sussex in action for final time in 2016 this week

19-Sep-2016

Luke Wells returns to the Sussex squad for this week's trip to Bristol

Sussex are in action for the final time in 2016 this week, as they travel to Bristol to take on Gloucestershire in the Specsavers County Championship tomorrow (10.30am start).

After last week’s thrilling clash with Worcestershire at The 1st Central County Ground, which finished in an 11-run victory for the visitors, Sussex currently lie fourth in the table, five points ahead of this week’s opponents.

Steve Magoffin took ten wickets in the match at Hove last week and is second in the table for the Division’s leading wicket-takers with 59 scalps in the Championship this season, whilst Chris Jordan needs five wickets to reach the milestone of 250 first-class career wickets. Chris Nash is Sussex’s leading run-scorer in the Championship with 1,190 runs.

Sussex have a good recent record against Gloucestershire, winning the last four matches in a row, and they remain unbeaten away from home in four-day cricket this season, having also won their last two away games.

Luke Wells returns to the squad after an eye infection kept him out of last week’s match with Worcestershire, but Ed Joyce remains sidelined with a knee injury, which also rules him out of Ireland’s one-day games against Australia and South Africa.

None of Sussex’s other injured players are able to return in time for this final match but Academy prospects Tom Haines and Delray Rawlins, batsman and all-rounder respectively, are included in the squad.

The Sussex squad is as follows:

Jofra Archer
Danny Briggs
Ben Brown (c/wkt)
Tom Haines
Fynn Hudson-Prentice
Chris Jordan
Steve Magoffin
Chris Nash
Delray Rawlins
Ollie Robinson
Phil Salt
Abi Sakande
Luke Wells
