RECREATIONAL: Three Bridges CC crowned Sussex Indoor Champions29-Jan-2013
Three Bridges CC were crowned the Sussex County Indoor cricket champions on Sunday for the second consecutive year.
Six of the seven Indoor Leagues qualified to enter the competition appeared at the Portslade Aldridge Academy Sports Centre to contest the Finals. The seventh, the Eastbourne League, had earlier been eliminated in a play-off against the Crawley League. The day provided a very much higher standard of cricket than for many years and there were no one-sided matches. Pool Two produced several unexpected results and all three teams won one match each. After run rate calculations, Three Bridges emerged as the winners, thanks to losing fewer wickets in the tournament than the other two and will now await a play-off with Kent in Portslade on Sunday 17th February, in the national stages of the competition (12.00pm start).
Crowhurst Park proved too good for Crawley Eagles and East Preston, winning both their matches. In the final, Three Bridges scored 115 for 5 from their 12 overs, but Crowhurst struggled against some high class bowling and fielding, and were dismissed for 82.
Tim Shutt, Head of Cricket Development at the Sussex Cricket Board, presented the trophy to Bridges’ Captain Mark Church.
