REPORT: Anyon and Hatchett star with the ball02-Apr-2014
Jimmy Anyon and Lewis Hatchett showed their class with the ball today at Hove as they helped bowl out Loughborough MCCU for 93.
Sussex declared overnight at The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground on the 421 for 9 they had made on the first day of this first-class University Match. Soon after they had reduced the students to 6 for 4 as both Anyon (pictured) and Hatchett tore into the youngsters’ order.
A gutsy 41 from Will MacVicar proved to be solid resistance for the visitors but the seamers returned after lunch rejuvenated and claimed five and four wickets respectively, with Ashar Zaidi picking up the other scalp.
Sussex of course chose not to enforce the follow-on opting for some further valuable practice in the middle ahead of the LV=County Championship opener with Middlesex that begins on Sunday and made 191 for 5 by the close of play. Steffan Piolet, batting at number three, was unbeaten on 75 at the end of the day’s play, his highest first-class score, whilst Matt Machan (48) and Luke Wells (36) had also contributed.
Spinner Adam Riley, the pick of the bowlers yesterday for Loughborough, claimed another three wickets to add to the five-for he took on the opening day.
Play resumes tomorrow at 11.00am at Hove with Sussex 519 runs ahead of their visitors. Gates open at 9.30am and entrance is FREE
