REPORT: Curtailed action on Day Two at Horsham07-Jun-2012
Only six overs were possible at Horsham today but there was no shortage of action as Sussex were reduced from 81 for 2 overnight to 90 for 6 by Surrey at Cricket Field Road.
Stuart Meaker, who wreaked most of the havoc for the visitors, got in on the act early on getting skipper Michael Yardy caught in the slips by Mark Ramprakash with the very first ball of the day.
There were only four more runs added when Joe Gatting played down the wrong line to the same bowler before Luke Wright became Murali Kartik’s second victim, pushing forward and edging behind to Steven Davies, who had made it back from Edgbaston after being called up as cover for Sussex’s Matt Prior, who was passed fit to play against the West Indies.
When Ben Brown was trapped leg-before by Meaker there had been four wickets in the short amount of play that had been possible and when it was decided there would be no more play possible after an early lunch, Sussex closed on 90 for 6 still 34 runs behind Surrey’s score.
So only six overs possible on Day Two then and those who have purchased tickets for today’s play can use them for any other day in the Festival, constituting tomorrow or Saturday’s play, or Sunday’s Clydesdale Bank 40 match against Derbyshire Falcons.
