REPORT: Nash cashes in as Eagles fail to soar24-Jun-2012
Sussex Sharks moved clear at the top of the Friends Life t20 South Group as they saw off Essex Eagles by 19 runs at The PROBIZ County Ground, Hove this afternoon.
After skipper Michael Yardy once again won the toss and batted first, Sussex made 209 for 6 from their 20 overs, the second highest score in the whole tournament so far this season.
Chris Nash was the top scorer for the Sharks hitting 52 from 41 deliveries before he was fantastically stumped by James Foster off the bowling of Ryan ten Doeschate whilst Luke Wright (40), Scott Styris (36) and Joe Gatting (45 not out) were also the main contributors in the excellent 200-plus total.
The Eagles though have plenty of batsmen capable of clearing the ropes and it would still require a competent bowling and fielding performance from the Sharks to seal victory. And that’s exactly what the vibrant Sunday afternoon crowd at The PROBIZ witnessed as Essex were dismissed for 190 off the final ball of the day.
Chris Liddle was once again in fine form as his 3 for 35 made him the pick of the bowlers. James Foster’s 47 from only 20 balls briefly threatened the Sussex total, as did Mark Pettini’s 44 earlier in the innings, before he was brilliantly run out by Styris, but it was once again Sussex’s day as they continue their unbeaten start to the competition.
The next FL t20 action at The PROBIZ is on Friday evening against Kent Spitfires (7.10pm). For tickets call 0844 264 0206 or buy click HERE
