REPORT: Nash stars on first day's play of 2013 at Hove

Sussex made a positive start to 2013 at The County Ground, Hove on Day One of their two-day friendly with Hampshire yesterday as Chris Nash hit a century.

With a 100-over format for yesterday agreed by the two Clubs, where the first team would bat for 60 overs and the second for 40, the hosts won the toss and decided to take to the field first.

It was a chilly day at Hove but most importantly a dry one and Hampshire made 171 for 2 from their 60 overs. Chris Liddle and James Anyon were the wicket-takers for Sussex as Hampshire skipper Jimmy Adams top-scored with an unbeaten 66. Michael Carberry (44) and Liam Dawson (32) were the two wickets to fall. Brighton-born James Vince scored 20 not out.

When Sussex took to the crease for the final 40 overs of the day, it was Nash who led from the front scoring an unbeaten 101 from 107 balls. Fellow opening partner Luke Wells scored 43 and the hosts finished the day 175 for 3.

Play resumes this morning at 11.00am with the sun shining down at Hove and entrance to the ground for this match is FREE
