REPORT: No Reece and quiet for Sussex on Day Two at Weetwood03-May-2012
An incredible spell from Leeds/Bradford MCCU seamer Luis Reece devastated the Sussex line-up on Day Two of their MCC University Match at Weetwood.
After the hosts were eventually bowled out for 164, as skipper Kirk Wernars claimed an impressive haul of 4 for 28, Sussex then collapsed to 58 all out in 28.3 overs.
Most of the damage was done by Reece, who at one stage had figures of five wickets for no runs from five overs, and eventually finished with 7 for 21. Only Will Adkin (13), Will Beer (10) and Lewis Hatchett (18) managed double figures as the students took a first-innings lead of 106 runs.
But Sussex bowled themselves back into the match and gave themselves a realistic chance of winning the game should they pick up the last few wickets cheaply this morning. At stumps, Leeds/Bradford were 102 for 6 as Hatchett, fresh from top-scoring with the bat, ended the day with 3 for 16 whilst Naveed Arif, Adkin and Chris Liddle were also amongst the wickets.Play resumes at 11.00am this morning with Leeds/Bradford 208 runs ahead going into the final day.
