REPORT: Sharks suffer Semi-Final heartbreak once again

Sussex Sharks suffered semi-final heartbreak for the second successive Saturday as they were beaten by Hampshire Royals at The PROBIZ County Ground, Hove this afternoon in the Clydesdale Bank 40 Semi-Final.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Luke Wright was the star of the proceedings as he smashed his second successive century in the competition following this vital hundred in the Bank Holiday Monday victory over Kent Spitfires at Canterbury.

His 122 from only 100 balls was the mainstay of the Sussex innings but he lacked solid support despite starts from Chris Nash (26) and Matt Prior (28). The total of 219 for 8 looked at the time defendable but Hampshire’s start in reply was phenomenal.

By the time the first wicket fell, that of opener Michael Carberry, the Royals had already made 129 as the Man of the Match hit 68 from only 36 balls, a devastating knock to take the game away from the Sharks.

He was well supported by James Vince (58) and despite Will Beer removing both openers it wasn’t to be Sussex’s day as Jimmy Adams (44 not out) and Simon Katich (47 not out) ensured that the Sharks lost in the Semi-Final of the CB40 for the second year on the bounce.
