REPORT: Sharks all-Wright to pounce on Panthers

Sussex Sharks finally got their Friends Life t20 home campaign underway this evening with a 21 run victory over Middlesex Panthers at The PROBIZ County Ground, Hove.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Sharks made 161 for 4 from their 20 overs with Luke Wright starring for the hosts. His knock of 91 included seven fours and two sixes as he was ably assisted by Chris Nash (19), Matt Machan (22) and Murray Goodwin (18).

In reply the visitors look well set to make a strong challenge to chase down the score as Joe Denly and John Simpson put on 62 for the first wicket. But some impressive bowling from skipper Michael Yardy and Will Beer, who took two wickets apiece.

The Panthers innings will mainly be remembered for a fantastic piece of fielding though. If three catches on the boundary from Joe Gatting and similar effort from Machan weren’t enough, then Nash’s one-handed effort to dismiss the dangerous Dawid Malan was certainly the champagne moment as the opener flew like superman in the covers.

Sussex Sharks are at home at The PROBIZ again on Sunday when they entertain Essex Eagles in a 2.40pm start.
