REPORT: Sussex draw with Loughborough MCCU

Lewis Hatchett claimed match figures of 8 for 64, his first-class best

Steffan Piolet flew to his maiden first-class hundred on Day Three of the University Match against Loughborough MCCU at Hove today but Sussex had to settle for a draw as the light faded fast later on in the day.

Sussex resumed on 191 for 5 overnight and declared on 234 for 5 as Piolet, whose previous highest score in first-class matches was 30, reached an unbeaten 103.

That left the hosts a mammoth 562 runs ahead of their student visitors but Loughborough did make more of a fist of it in their second innings and by the time the players shook hands at around 5.20pm they had reached 224 for 8.

The left-arm seam of Lewis Hatchett was once again the pick of the bowling as he claimed figures of 4 for 41 and match-figures of 8 for 64, comfortably his first-class best.

The LV=County Championship begins at The County Ground on Sunday when Sussex entertain Middlesex. Gates open at 9.30am and play is due to start at 11.00am.
