REPORT: Sussex made to work on another dry day at The PROBIZ

27-Apr-2012

Whilst matches around the country were decimated by the weather, a full day’s play at The PROBIZ County Ground, Hove, saw Sussex dismissed Warwickshire for 545.

Resuming on 281 for 5 this morning, the visitors could add only three runs before James Anyon cleaned up night-watchman Chris Wright, but England starlet Jonathan Trott picked up where he left off the day before and batted his way to a splendid 178 before finally falling to the spin of Chris Nash, caught by skipper Michael Yardy in the slips after attempting a big drive.

It was Rikki Clarke and former Sussex wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose that showed some similar resistance down the order, frustrating the hosts with knocks of 78 not out and 75 respectively. The spin of Nash did do the trick though twice again down the order as he pouched both Keith Barker (33) and Jeetan Patel (16), slogging to midwicket, as Warwickshire eventually were bowled out for 545 at teatime.

Sussex took to the crease and lost what could still prove to be a couple of crucial wickets before the close of play. Nash was caught chasing a wide one from Barker for 18 before Ed Joyce (14) went back to Patel three balls into his spell to be trapped leg-before.

It was left to Luke Wells and Murray Goodwin to steady the ship and see Sussex through to 57 for 2, 488 runs behind Warwickshire.
