REPORT: Sussex taught a lesson by students04-May-2012
Sussex were beaten by Leeds/Bradford MCCU at Weetwood yesterday as the hosts sealed a 79 run victory.
Sussex were dismissed for 176 inside 51 overs with only Matt Machan providing any real resistance. Machan made 76 off just 74 balls, including six fours and three sixes, and dominated a 96-run partnership with skipper Kirk Wernars.
The pair briefly raised hopes of an unlikely win as they took the score to 143-3 in pursuit of 226 to win but Sussex lost their last seven wickets for just 33 runs.
Earlier the students' had declared their second innings for 149-9 after resuming on 102-6 with Lewis Hatchett taking 3-34.
