REPORT: The Only Way Is Essex for Sussex as Sharks look to extend lead

Sussex Sharks are hoping to extend their lead at the summit of the Friends Life t20 South Group this evening when they take on Essex Eagles at The Ford County Ground, Chelmsford (7.10pm start).

The Sharks are hoping to make it a quick ‘double’ over the Eagles and open up a four point gap at the top in the process, following their 19 run victory against them at The PROBIZ County Ground on Sunday.

There were 399 runs scored across the 40 overs with Chris Nash (52), Luke Wright (40), Scott Styris (36) and Joe Gatting (45 not out) all helping Sussex pass the 200-mark. Chris Liddle’s three wickets in reply helped dismiss the visitors for 190.

Sussex can welcome back their England-wicketkeeper Matt Prior to the squad for tonight’s televised clash whilst Styris, who dislocated his thumb taking a sharp return catch on Sunday, could still be set to play.

The Sussex squad is as follows:

Amjad Khan
WAT Beer
BC Brown
JS Gatting
MW Goodwin
Naveed Arif Gondal
CJ Liddle
MW Machan
CD Nash
MJ Prior
SB Styris
LJ Wright
MH Yardy (capt)
