REPORT: Tough day for Sussex

Nottinghamshire took a firm hold of the LV= County Championship Division One clash with Sussex after bowling out the visitors for just 171.

Seamer Andy Carter led the way with 3-41, while Luke Wells was the only Sussex man to reach 50 in a what was a below-par total.

Wells himself had three lives as he was dropped twice in the slips and also ran out his captain Michael Yardy for a duck, while several of his team-mates threw their wickets away with poor shots.

By the close Nottinghamshire had more than halved the deficit in reaching 88 for one, and will be aiming to build a convincing first-innings lead on day two, when they will resume 83 runs behind.
